Who we are
Since March 21, Theodora Goia and Sebastian Fath have taken over responsibility as the Chairpersons of the Constituted Student Body of Heidelberg University (VS).
Theodora Goia (she/her)
Theodora is 21 years old and currently in her second semester of American Studies. Originally from Stuttgart, she particularly misses the cinemas of her home city. Alongside her studies, she is involved in university politics and previously worked as an internal and external affairs officer. She is currently active on the board of the state student representation (LaStuVe) and has contributed to the founding of a state council at the fzs. Her interest in political work began in her school days, when she set up a school committee against discrimination. Among other things, she campaigned for the revision of racist and ableist content in school textbooks and initiated projects such as guaranteeing a free supply of menstrual products in schools.
Sebastian Fath (he/him)
Sebastian is 25 years old and studies History and English. He has already been involved in Heidelberg for one and a half years as a consultant for the StuWe (Referent für das Studierendenwerk) and is actively involved in its committees: He is a member of the Administrative Board, the Representative Assembly and was involved in the search committee for a new management. He has also been active in the VS’s archive working group for a year (cf. AK Archiv).
Before moving to Heidelberg, he studied law in Würzburg for three semesters. Originally from Oberboihingen, a small town in the Stuttgart metropolitan region, he used to be heavily involved in musical projects in his youth – a passion that has unfortunately waned considerably since his studies.
What we do
The two chairpersons of the VS (Constituted Student Body) are elected by the Student Council (Studierendenrat (StuRa)). The election takes place in the third session of a legislative period. The central task of the chairperson is to chair the RefKonf meetings which primarily means preparing and following up the meetings via documents and minutes as well as chairing the meeting itself. The chairpersons have a joint vote in the RefKonf. They are also members of the StuRa, but only in an advisory capacity. They report regularly on the meetings of the RefKonf.
The two chairpersons are also the legal representatives of the constituted student body. This means that statutes, budgets, QSM proposals, etc. adopted by the StuRa or other bodies of the VS and all contracts between the VS and external parties, such as first-year student union contracts, are signed by the chairpersons.
They are also responsible, together with the VS’s employees, for ensuring the proper administration of the constituted student body.
The representation of the constituted student body at a central level is carried out both externally and internally by its departments/offices in accordance with the positioning and guidelines of the StuRa or, in exceptional cases, in accordance with the positionings of the RefKonf.
Our goals
We want to strengthen the political visibility of the student body, both within the university and in city as well as state politics. Closer cooperation with the city council, the political players in Heidelberg and other student representatives in Baden-Wuerttemberg are a key concern for us.
However, we not only want to develop the VS externally but internally, as well:
- Sebastian is committed to digitalising and optimising administrative processes in order to make VS structures more efficient and accessible.
- Theo is focusing on integrating new students into VS work and amplifying the promotion of student projects.
We also want to improve cooperation between the offices, student associations (Fachschaften) and committees in order to best represent the concerns of all students.
