VPN allowed in the StuWe dormitories
Over the past few weeks, some residents of Studierendenwerk halls of residence have been wondering how they are still supposed to study: Because Moodle (and more and more university services in the future) are only accessible via university VPN. However, the StuWe’s internet terms of use prohibit the use of VPNs. This could also mean only VPN servers (not clients as with the URZ VPN), but this was not clear.
In the meantime, the URZ has also suggested rewriting this passage from the terms of use.
So we assume that you are also allowed to use VPNs in the dormitories. And that you can continue your studies.
If something is bothering you and you think your student council should take care of it, please get in touch. Sometimes we can do something – and sometimes, as in this case, the URZ was not even aware that the statutes in the halls of residence prohibit access to the VPN.
